a bad food:

Iron supplements

Please do not get vitamins with iron; they encourage all kinds of infections especially in the gut, and iron has had much research done on it re other diseases. No oral iron if you can help it. Just eat the liver pate and if you like liver, eat it at least once a week.

  1. Cally Burch says:

My 10-year-old son (with Crohn’s and JIA – both recently diagnosed and, very recently, in remission) is on Methotrexate and has had low iron levels all along, until he was given an iron infusion in hospital. The doctors have strongly recommended a multivitamin with added minerals – especially given the drug he is on. I am loathed to ignore their advice…

Hi Cally, Very sorry to hear about your son, but glad he’s feeling better right now in remission. I know for me personally sugar and carbs are my biggest enemy with food, so Paleo has been a life-saver in terms of getting a handle on my body and gut. Does your son respond well to the Low-FODMAP or Paleo Diet?

When it comes to vitamins and minerals I tend to follow Dr. Weil’s suggestions.
