a bad food:

Aspartame

While Elaine, author of the SCD diet, says this is allowed after being symptom free, our readers have pointed out this is a dangerous chemical and should be avoided for general health. Best stick with whole foods and ingredients, not strange sounding chemicals. More info on Breaking the Vicious Cycle’s web site: Aspartame

There is no reason for this to be legal. It is a poison that can lead to Alzheimer’s and cancer. Just avoid it. It’s really not that hard. If you’re going to drink a soda once a week, a cane sugar soda is much less dangerous for you than anything with aspartame.

Jeremy, you’re right and thanks for your comment. I’ve re-labeled the Aspartame “food” as bad.

Since trying the Paleo diet I’ve been inclined to revise the original SCD food list and remove ingredients that aren’t plain whole foods. If you’re trying to eat healthy, try hard by making everything from scratch using locally grown, mostly-organic foods. It’s the only way you can trust what you’re putting in your body.
